When our families bring breastmilk into our FFL locations, the milk is properly refrigerated and labeled with the contents, date, and your child's name. Our Infant programs will offer an infant feeding plan to help support your child's transition to solid feeding.

What does behaviour guidance look like at FFL?

  • Our teams foster the development of Social and emotional skills through use of positive descriptive feedback and encouragement as well as positive redirection and reminders.

How much time do the kids get to play outside?

  • Our classrooms strive to implore nature, in all of its true elements, for at least 40% of our day, so, we're usually outside for about 3-3.5 hours every day. In extreme weather conditions, we follow guidance from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development which states that:
    7.1 Children should play indoors when the temperature falls below -25C (-13F) with or without a wind chill factor, or when the wind chill factor is -28C (-15F) or colder regardless of the temperature (Canadian Pediatric Society, 2015).
    7.2 When the UV index from Environment Canada is high (6-7) or very high (8-10):
    (a) children have hats with brims and lightweight clothing;
    (b) children apply (with support from an adult as needed) adequate sunblock with a SPF of at least 30 on all exposed skin before going outside, following the application instructions set out by the manufacturer; and
    (c) outdoor activities are planned for the early morning and late afternoon, when possible, especially when UV conditions are very high.
    7.3 In extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain or thunderstorms; extreme wind conditions; sleet or hail; freezing rain/icy conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and humidity; and extreme UV index levels, staff and care providers can adjust outdoor play times. This must be documented, and the decisions must be in the best interests of the children."

Will my child leave the centre at any time?

  • Exploration is one of our CARE pillars at FFL and with a careful risk assessment and plan in place, as well as concrete communication with our families, we try to get on outings as much as possible. Family members/guardians will always be notified prior to any outing from FFL unless in the case of an Emergency, in which case, notification will happen in a most timely manner as per our FFL Family communication plan
